Suicide Prevention
& Mental Health

Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. It is the 8th leading cause of death in Vermont which means that, on average, someone dies by suicide every three days. It is the second leading cause of death for Vermonters aged 10 – 44 (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 2020).

The causes of suicide are complex and determined by multiple factors. The goal of suicide prevention is to reduce factors that increase risk and increase factors that promote resilience. Suicide is preventable. There is HOPE!
