PROGRAMS & EVENTS

HCC was created in response to the suicide deaths of three teenagers in our community in 2013. Nearly 25 agencies came together to better understand the needs of our youth and the dynamics in our community. Now, just seven years later, our vision for HCC remains the same: we are a diverse and collaborative group of community members designed to support and promote the wellness of individuals and families. Our grass-roots coalition acts to reduce the stigma and impact of alcohol and drug use, food insecurity, and mental health, in support of the development of a healthy, safe, and resilient Hartford.

We have always been a volunteer organization that has relied on the time and resources of our neighbors. Due to our community needs, we became a nonprofit organization in 2018. Our inaugural Executive Director was hired at the beginning of 2020 and through the pandemic HCC, along with the rest of Hartford will rise to be resilient through this.

Getting to y

Getting to ‘Y’ is an evidence-based practice through which middle and high school aged youth bring meaning to their Youth Risk Behavior Survey data (YRBS), address youth health and well-being issues, and connect with their peers, school, and community.
